ANGELA McKAY “LESSONS”
Hamilton Place Studio Theatre CD Release Concert

If you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing the amazing voice of Hamilton’s own singer/songwriter and guitarist Angela McKay, you are in for a real treat Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 8:00 pm in the Hamilton Place Studio Theatre. Popular as a lead singer in bands in her late teens, the devastating setback caused by her sudden loss of sight in 1992 served ultimately to broaden her vision. Angela has been writing and performing for over fifteen years culminating in her latest release ‘Lessons’. Most songs on the CD, which was produced by Rob Lamothe, will be performed with accompaniment by some of the areas’ finest musicians including Jacob Moon, Mark McIntyre, Danny Lockwood, Jordan Abraham, Sonny Del Rio, and of course Rob Lamothe. Melissa McClelland and Caroline Wiles will also perform and many other musicians and harmony vocalists will grace the stage.

Together with her guide dog Fenway, this dynamic young woman has been active in our community as spokesperson for the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and Guide Dogs for the Blind, San Raphael California. The song called ‘The Challenge’ found on her Milestones demo CD (released December 1999) was written as the theme song for The Twin Tower Run, to support victims of violence. Her song ‘Justify’ was commissioned by a New York theatre company for use in a play dealing with the controversial issue of abortion. Angela contributed the song ‘I Don’t Mind’ for the compilation fundraiser CD Out of Sight for the CNIB. She has also been the owner/operator of angel cave studios offering both analog and digital recording and reproduction services since 1997. Angela organizes and hosts a popular monthly coffee house at angel cave studios at 405 Cumberland Avenue featuring guest performances by singer/songwriters from Hamilton and across the country.

Angela delights in sharing her musical gifts at area service clubs, senior’s facilities, bookstores, hospitals, schools, churches, folk clubs, coffee houses, festivals and special events. Her challenges and experiences in living with blindness and diabetes are reflected in her songs containing gutsy and inspirational lyrics, which lift the listener to new levels of understanding. Filled with soulful raw emotion, the sincerity of her music has been captivating listening audiences for years as she sings from the heart. Her songs tell stories, enlarge fantasies and keep your feet tapping to the rockin’ beats. Angela’s style is a country blues-rock mix which is uniquely her own.

Her powerful new CD ‘Lessons’, reflects the “lessons she has learned”.

See you March 13 at the concert !!
